The Residence Hall Library System was established in September, 1969, at six locations in order to serve the informational, educational, cultural, and recreational needs of the hall residents.

Presently, there are eight libraries in Allen Hall, Busey-Evans, Florida Avenue, Gregory Drive, Illinois Avenue, Pennsylvania Avenue, and Peabody Drive residence halls.

The system is funded by the Housing Division of the UIUC, and its use is restricted to students living in the residence halls.
